Amsterdam Street Art Zuidoost
Bijlmer and Bullewijk are two close neighborhoods in southeastern Amsterdam and Zuidoost. These are two green and open neighborhoods. A kind of community integration in the atmosphere of a large urban park, combined with urban construction with hundreds of apartments in each block.
The population in the neighborhoods is mixed and constitutes a melting pot of different nationalities. In the beginning, the area was considered a ghetto of poverty and crime, but in recent decades there has been a change and improvement in the perception of the neighborhood. One of the tools for changing the image of the neighborhood is the rejuvenation of the population and the integration of art within the urban complexes. These are neighborhoods with a unique young local atmosphere, with green, rich and tangled nature around them. Among the trees, groves and massive residential buildings (11-13 floors) you will find a creative community that runs art projects and never stops creating.
The project this post deals with was organized by R.U.A. – Reflexo on Urban Art – an art platform that actually implements huge-scale street art exhibitions in the public space. R.U.A. also creates art events, workshops and lectures on art in the public space in cities around the world. If you want to discover another residential area that is completely occupied by street art, visit the post about the project promoted by ASA in East Amsterdam. The two Bijlmer and Bullewijk neighborhoods can be easily reached on foot or by tram from the city center. It is important to understand that these are very sleepy neighborhoods and the only reason to get to them is just the amazing street exhibit you can get a glimpse of in this post.
Among the artists featured in the post:
Rimon Guimarães, Dalata, Derlon, Ovni, Gais Ama, Speto, Ramon Martins, Onio

Graffiti and street art are a changing and dynamic – the appearance of an art work on the map, does not prove that the work still exists, and has not been disrupted/removed/deleted.
The maps contain about 50% of the art works in those neighborhoods – so you always have more to discover by yourself…
