Street artist’s and pop artists at the MOCO Museum in the Museum Square in Amsterdam
The MOCO Museum is an independent museum with a wide collection of modern and inspiring street art. The museum presents a relatively permanent list of proven artists with a unique vision. The MOCO Museum has two branches in Amsterdam and Barcelona.
MOCO Amsterdam is housed in a town house, overlooking the Museum Square in the heart of Amsterdam.
In the museum collection you will find:Banksy, Jean-Michel Basquiat, JR, KAWS, Keith Haring, Jeff Koons, Damien Hirst, Tracey Emin, Yayoi Kusama, Mark Rothko, Andy Warhol, Studio Irma and many others.
All the works you have seen so far, were originally created on the street by Banksy. In the exhibition at the MOCO Museum you will find authentic simulations, approved duplications and reproductions of the original.
The MOCO Museum offers visitors a collection of works that reflect on the weaknesses of modern society from an artistic angle. Here is a video I took at the museum that allows a glimpse into the unique structure, the variety of types of works and world-renowned artists in the fields of street art and pop art.

- Exposed to street art & graffiti in the different neighborhoods
- Street art is displayed both on the map and in the list
- Discover the most interesting neighborhoods in the city (street art wize)
- Add your favorite street art to the city route you planned in advance
- Use the street art map (Google Map) as the navigation map for all other attractions
Graffiti and street art are a changing and dynamic – the appearance of an art work on the map, does not prove that the work still exists, and has not been disrupted/removed/deleted.
The maps contain about 50% of the art works in those neighborhoods – so you always have more to discover by yourself…
Street artists and pop artists at the MOCO Museum
The exhibition at the MOCO Museum is based on movement in small spaces, the rooms of the original house, and in each room you will find a unique collection of works by a particular artist. The museum is spread over 4 floors that revolve around a large staircase in the center.
In this post I chose to focus on one of the unique artists in the exhibition – the Dutch artist THE KID
ROBIN KID (born 1991), better known as THE KID, is a multidisciplinary neo-pop artist, self-taught by Dutch descent. THE KID has already gained international recognition for its body of artwork, thought-provoking and social commitment that drives it, ROBIN is a citizen of the world, a natural born and a contemporary, multidisciplinary artist with a self-acquired education.
THE KID's works are hyper-realistic portraits, larger than life and life-size sculptures until it is unclear whether it is a painting or a photograph. The portraits confront the viewer with profound personal stories that expose the injustice in America and beyond in many democracies around the world today. The critical-social exhibition seeks, in the end, to illuminate a more compassionate and understanding world.
The issues that concern THE KID are: equality of opportunity, social indifference, institutionalized racism, civil rights and more. The artist THE KID casts doubt on social determinism and the fine line between innocence and corruption for today's youth – "behind everything great, there is something tragic." 'The Future Is Old' – is the name of THE KID's collection of works that you can see in the MOCO Museum located in the Museum Quarter of Amsterdam.
THE KID asks in his works whether the broken American dream illustrates to us where too much of our democracies are headed, and where many more are headed in the near future? Does history repeat itself in the same way between generations? Will the youth rise up and say no to a future that is perceived by them as sleeping?
At first glance, the young portraits that THE KID presents attract visitors who are looking for beauty and a perception of a better future. However, on closer inspection you will see quite a few cuts and bruises that reveal a darker side of reality.
THE KID uses art (painting, sculpture, performance) as a means of making us doubt the concepts of power and right. Common to all the young people in THE KID's works is that behind their youth and beauty, lies a tragic story – like a flower destined to fade. His goal is to "capture them in their crucial moments, trapped forever between innocence and corruption."
THE KID is an active supporter and supporter of the international NGO Human Rights Watch, which protects human rights around the world, in particular because of its fight against social discrimination and inhumane legal systems.
At the bottom of the post you will find links to THE KID's website and Instagram.
