Street art in East Amsterdam
In May 2019, the Amsterdam Street Art Foundation organized a street art festival called "If Walls Could Speak". During the project, 10 huge and spectacular murals were created along housing blocks in East Amsterdam. Leading street artists were selected for the unique project and the only instruction they received was to create around the theme of "Amsterdam for Everyone".
The Amsterdam Street Art Foundation (ASA) works to broadly accept street art as a valued art form. ASA presents the most amazing street art from around the world to Dutch residents, while at the same time introducing Dutch street artist to the rest of the world. Backed by their huge network ASA offer young street artists something to promote their work. For ASA based artists act as a professional agency and assist in curating invited walls, events and many other projects involving the artist and client.
If Walls Could Speak is the first large-scale project in Amsterdam where a central district is rich in so many great murals by leading artists. This is a commercial-social-community collaboration between ASA and the residential companies responsible for the project. The neighborhood can be easily reached on foot or by tram from the city center. It is important to understand that this is a very sleepy neighborhood and the only reason to get to it, is just the amazing street art exhibit you can get a glimpse of in this post.

The Alternative Walking Tour
Graffiti and street art are a changing and dynamic – the appearance of an art work on the map, does not prove that the work still exists, and has not been disrupted/removed/deleted.
The maps contain about 50% of the art works in those neighborhoods – so you always have more to discover by yourself…
