DAIN NYC (born in Brooklyn), is one of the most influential street artists to emerge from New York. DAIN combines urban techniques with old portraits of Hollywood glamor stars. In many of the works, he uses iconic black-and-white head shots of well-known movie stars and creates a unique and interesting collage with a variety of media in each work.
In his works DAIN uses a number of different techniques: silk screen printing, color spray, glue, collage and acrylic.
The process begins with a black-and-white background image on which it creates layers and textures with shards of old advertisements, printed pieces of paper, shreds of magazines, logos and more. Next, he adds color to the piece. What has over time become his unintentional trademark is the "dripping circle" around the eye of the central figure in the work – which over time has become identified with him.
DAIN often mixes a feminine look and masculine fashion along with additional ingredients. He manages to create a graphic-urban-artistic language that is unique with characteristics known only to his works.
DAIN selects black-and-white images that speak to it, often inspired by iconic models and celebrities. His work reflects an appreciation for an era in which women exposed their bodies less and left more room for imagination. DAIN sees his work as a confrontation between the destructive gestures of graffiti, and femininity in the Hollywood world and he tries to understand the power of art as a social architect.
DAIN's works have been exhibited around the world in Paris, Berlin, Rome, Amsterdam, Miami, Zurich and New York. For all his works on the street you will not find his signature. Even his personal appearance has been kept secret for years as a street artist who maintains anonymity.
At the end of the post, you will find a link to DAIN's website and Instagram.

DAIN creates at the same time both on the street (street art – PASTE ART) and in galleries that are considered FINE ART. Many times, he makes sure to hang on a TAPE ART street of the original work sold in the gallery. In this way he increases the number of people who are exposed to his works and the two audiences receive added value from him.Whether it is street art, or a work for the gallery – DAIN manages to maintain a careful and precise balance between FINE ART, contemporary art and street art.Among the many commercial projects, he has done over the years – in 2018, DAIN was invited to create for the New York City Public Mural Project by leading fashion and apparel companies like Coach and Puma.
